Knowledge of additional languages sometimes increases job applicants’ salaries markedly. According to HeadHunter the increase can be as much as 48%. So which language is worth learning to build a successful career?

Specialists of HeadHunter have analysed more than 70 thousand questionnaires among managerial positions. All candidates were fluent in English and one additional foreign language.

Applicants with knowledge of Turkish and Chinese, in addition to English, were found to have higher salaries. Their salary expectations are 48% higher than those who only speak English.

Next in line were managers with knowledge of French and Portuguese. After them came people with knowledge of German, Japanese and Arabic. At the bottom of the list were summaries in Armenian and Hindi.

Knowledge of languages has a noticeable impact on employees’ salaries, a fact that has been clearly demonstrated in the last 5 years. In particular, additional languages have a positive influence on career development in the following professions:

IT specialist;
personal assistant, secretary;
office manager;
economic worker;;
employee of an international company;
sales specialist.

Knowledge of English often increases the value of an employee by 30%, additional languages even more. In some sectors, employers do not even consider candidates without knowledge of foreign languages.
